Down Deep

A one-tap mining game for iPhone.

Stand on a rickety lift and break the column of earth beneath you, one tap at a time, before the cave-in above catches up.

How it plays

You stand on a wooden lift hanging in a mine shaft. Tap the left or right side of the screen to strike the column of earth below you: the block breaks, falls away, and the lift drops one block deeper. Roots, boulders and crystals stick out, so pick the side that is clear.

  • The cave-in is the clock

Rubble fills the top of the shaft. Every strike pushes it back; every pause brings it closer.

  • A lamp on your helmet

Your light reaches a few blocks down. The deeper the layer, the less you see coming.

  • Every strike has weight

Chips fly, the frame holds for a split second, the screen shakes, and each material feels different under your thumb.

  • Gems on the way down

Stand on the right side to collect them, and spend them on how your miner looks.

Five layers down

Breaking into a new layer gives you a flash, a moment of slow motion and a short breather. Then the colours change and the shaft gets harder.

  1. SoilPacked earth, pebbles and roots.
  2. ClayBanded and heavy. Roots reach this far.
  3. RockBoulders jut out of the column.
  4. CrystalsDarker. Crystals catch the lamp.
  5. LavaBasalt with glowing cracks.
